앤드류 해리슨(Andrew Harrison) 영국육군 중장은 2021년 12월 유엔군사령부 부사령관으로 임명됐다.
장군은 1990년 영국군 낙하산연대(Parachute Regiment)에 입대, 군에 입문했다. 앤드류 장군은 1990년대를 통해 그 10년간 매우 다양한 복무 경력을 보여준다.
북아일랜드에서는 물론 유엔 소속으로 이라크에서 복무한 바 있으며, 호주·뉴질랜드의 육군에서 교환장교로 근무하고 영국 샌드허스트 육군사관학교(Royal Military Academy Sandhurst) 및 육군 작전본부에서도 근무했다.
장군은 소령이었던 2000년에 유엔 군사옵저버(비무장) 일원으로 시에라리온(Sierra Leone)에 파견되었다. 이곳에서 내전이 일어났을 때 그는 반군인 혁명통일전선(Revolutionary United Front)에게 12일간이나 억류되었다가 유엔 거주지로 탈출했다.
하지만 그곳은 반군에게 포위된 채 고립됐으며 3달 후에야 영국특수부대와 유엔의 강습으로 구출되었다.
당시 그는 영국특수부대 SAS(Special Air Service)와 교신하며 작전을 지원하는 등의 공적으로 대영제국 훈장 멤버(MBE·Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire)로 임명되었다.

장군은 영국 국방행정 및 합동참모대학(Defence Administration and Joint Staff College)에서 석사 학위를 받은 후, 2003년 그는 보병 소총중대장으로 이라크에 파병 작전(liberation of Iraq)을 수행했다.
20기갑여단(Armoured Brigade)의 참모장으로 임명돼 임무를 수행하다 2006년 여단과 함께 바스라(Basra) 주둔지로 복귀하면서 이때 이라크에서의 공적으로 여왕훈장(Queen’s Commendation)을 받았다.
2007년 장군은 이라크와 아프가니스탄에서 전사한 영국군의 송환을 68개 행사를 주관하였으며, 이후 아프가니스탄 헬만드(Helmand)에 위치한 제3 코만도여단(Commando Brigade)에 소속되어 임무를 수행했고 2009년 낙하산연대 2대대를 지휘했다.
이때 여기서 그는 부상을 입었으며 뛰어난 리더십을 인정받아 공로훈장(DSO·Distinguished Service Order)을 받았다. DSO는 영국은 물론 영연방 지역에서 수여되는 군사 훈장. ‘실제 작전 중 매우 성공적인 지휘와 리더십’을 보인 장병에게 수여된다. 사후에는 받을 수 없다.
대령으로 진급하면서 장군은 영국 국방부에서 아프가니스탄 계획 부서를 이끌었으며, 2012년 영국 국방아카데미의 고등지휘 및 참모 과정(Higher Command and Staff Course)에 입학했다.
이후 준장으로 진급했고 연합신속대응군단(Allied Rapid Reaction Corps)에서 합동화력을 담당했다. 2016년 오스트레일리아 국방대학(Defence College)에서 정치 및 정책 석사과정과 국방 및 전략학 과정을 수료한 후 2017년 1월부터 2019년까지 주(駐)호주 영국 국방고문으로 활동했다.
소장으로 진급 후 장군은 아프가니스탄에서 영국군을 지휘했으며 이때 미 공로훈장도 받았다. 2020년 5월부터 미 중부사령부에서 영국군 고위 군사자문 임무를 수행했다. 2021년 12월 유엔군사령부 부사령관으로 임명되었다.
장군은 전(前) 육군 장교이자 교사인 캐롤린(Carolyn)과 결혼해 슬하에 딸 셋을 두고 있다. 앤드루는 군사(military history)를 비롯 크리켓, 스키, 사이클, 달리기 등을 즐기며 영국육군 동계 스포츠 협회의 부회장을 역임했다.

British Army Lieutenant General Andrew Harrison was appointed Deputy Commander of the United Nations Command in December 2021.
The general joined the British Parachute Regiment in 1990 and joined the army. General Andrew shows a wide variety of service experiences over the decade through the 1990s.
He has served in Iraq as well as Northern Ireland and as a United Nations member, as an exchange officer in the Army of Australia and New Zealand, as well as the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Army Operations Headquarters.
In 2000, when he was a major, he was dispatched to Sierra Leone as a member of the United Nations Military Observer. When the civil war broke out here, he was detained by the rebel Revolutionary United Front for 12 days before fleeing to a U.N. residence.
However, it was isolated surrounded by rebels, and it was not until three months later that it was rescued by British Special Forces and the United Nations.
At that time, he was named the Member of the British Order of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his public service of communicating with the British Special Air Service (SAS) and supporting operations.

After receiving his master's degree from the British Defense Administration and Joint Staff College, he served as an infantry rifle squadron leader in 2003 and carried out the Liberation of Iraq.
He was appointed Chief of Staff of the Armour Brigade (Armourd Brigade) for his duties. When he returned to Basra's base with the brigade in 2006, he was awarded the Queen's Order for his service in Iraq.
In 2007, the general organized 68 events to repatriate British troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and later joined the 3rd Commando Brigade in Helmand, Afghanistan, to carry out his mission and led two parachute battalions in 2009.
At this time, he was injured and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) in recognition of his excellent leadership. The DSO is a military medal awarded not only in the UK but also in the Commonwealth. It is awarded to soldiers who showed "very successful command and leadership during actual operations." You can't get it after you die.
Promoted to colonel, the general led the Afghanistan Planning Department in the UK Department of Defense and entered the Higher Command and Staff Course of the UK Defense Academy in 2012.
Later, he was promoted to brigadier general and was in charge of joint firepower at the Allied Radid Reaction Corp. After completing master's and defense and strategy courses at Defence College in 2016, he served as a state British defense advisor from January 2017 to 2019.
After being promoted to major general, the general commanded the British army in Afghanistan and was awarded the US Medal of Merit. Since May 2020, he has served as a senior military advisor to the British military at the Central Command. In December 2021, he was appointed deputy commander of the United Nations Command.
The general married Caroline, a former army officer and teacher, and has three daughters. Andrew served as vice president of the British Army Winter Sports Association, enjoying military history, cricket, skiing, cycling and running.
