덩크슈터, 미국여자프로농구(WNBA) 브리트니 그라이너(32·미국)가 마약 소지 혐의로 러시아에 구금됐다. 큰 충격이다.
러시아 세관은 신원을 알리지 않았다. 하지만 공개한 영상에서 브리트니 그라이너로 확인됐다.
6일(한국시간) 뉴욕타임스, CNN, BBC 등 외신들은 그라이너가 러시아에 구금됐다고 보도했다. 그라이너가 지난달 러시아의 한 공항에서 해시시 오일이 포함된 기내 반입 수하물이 적발된 것으로 뒤늦게 알려졌다.
WNBA 소속팀 피닉스 머큐리는 "상황을 인지했고, 모니터링 중이다. 그라이너가 신체적, 정신적으로 건강하고 안전하게 집에 돌아오는 게 중요하다"라고 전했다.
보도에 따르면, 러시아에서 마약 소지 혐의로 유죄 판결을 받을 경우, 최대 징역 10년형을 받을 수 있다.
그라이너는 2016 리우올림픽, 2020 도쿄올림픽에서 미국의 금메달을 이끈 주역. WNBA 올스타 7회에 빛나는 스타플레이어다.
그는 WNBA의 비시즌 동안 러시아의 UMMC 예카테린부르크에서 뛰었다.
최근 러시아의 우크라이나 침공으로 미국은 러시아내 자국민에 대해 철수 권고를 내렸다. 그라이너를 비롯해 여러 미국 선수들이 출국 과정을 밝거나 이미 출국했다.
일부 언론은 우크라이나 침공으로 러시아와 미국을 비롯한 서방 국가들의 대립 양상이 극에 달한 가운데 러시아가 미국을 향한 입김을 위해 구금했을 가능성을 제기하기도 했다.
미국 국무부 대변인은 "우리는 모스크바에서 체포된 미국 시민(그라이너)의 내용을 알고 있다. 시민이 해외에서 체포될 때, 우리는 모든 적절한 영사 서비스를 제공할 준비가 돼 있다"고 했다.
한편, 그라이너는 올해 9월 호주에서 열리는 국제농구연맹(FIBA) 여자월드컵에 미국 대표로 합류할 가능성이 높은 선수다. 한국이 방어해야 할 상대다. 한국과 미국은 함께 A조에 속했다.

Dunkshooter and Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Brittany Griner (32, USA) have been detained in Russia on charges of possessing drugs. It's a big shock.
Russian customs did not disclose their identity. However, in the video released, it was confirmed as a Brittany Griner.
Foreign media such as the New York Times, CNN, and BBC reported on the 6th (Korea Standard Time) that Griner was detained in Russia. It was belatedly reported that Griner was caught carrying luggage containing hash oil at an airport in Russia last month.
Phoenix Mercury, a team of WNBA, said, "We are aware of the situation and are monitoring it. "It's important for Griner to return home safely and physically," he said.
Reportedly, if convicted of drug possession in Russia, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
