한국 국가대표 여자농구 정선민(48) 감독이 국제농구연맹(FIBA)이 선정한 역대 월드컵 퍼포먼스 베스트5에 꼽혔다.
FIBA가 8일(현지시간) 세계 여성의 날을 맞아 역대 월드컵(전신 세계선수권대회 포함)에서 가장 인상적인 퍼포먼스를 보여준 5명을 선정했다. 당당히 정선민이 포함됐다.
FIBA는 "정선민은 세계에서 가장 뛰어난 선수 중 하나였다"면서 "한국 선수들을 지도하고 있는 그는 선수들이 존경할 수 있는 사람이다"이라고 추켜세웠다.
그러면서 2002년 중국에서 열린 세계선수권대회 2차예선(F조) 조별리그 최종전 한국-리투아니아와 경기를 소개했다.
당시 정선민은 지침 없이 40분 풀타임을 뛰었다. 42득점을 뽑으며 한국의 76-70, 승리를 견인했다.
리투아니아를 잡은 한국은 F조 4위에 올라 8강에 진출했다. 8강전에서 E조 1위를 차지한 브라질을 71-70으로 꺾는 이변을 연출, 4강에 올랐다.
FIBA는 "정선민은 (리투아니아전에서) 자유투 18개를 던져 모두 성공했다. 믿기 어려운 득점력이었다"면서 "이 대회에서 자유투를 총 48개 시도해 46개를 성공, 95.8%의 성공률을 자랑했다."고 ‘엄지 척’을 했다.

정선민은 2000년 시드니올림픽 4강, 2002년 세계선수권대회 4강 활약을 바탕으로 2003년 한국 선수 최초로 미국여자프로농구(WNBA)에 진출했다.
FIBA는 정선민 외에 오르텐시아 마르카리(63·브라질), 셰릴 밀러(58·미국), 로렌 잭슨(41·호주), 산초 리틀(39·스페인)을 역대 월드컵 퍼포먼스 베스트5에 올렸다.
한편, 한국은 지난달 월드컵 출전권을 획득했다. 오는 9월, 호주에서 열리는 2022 여자월드컵에 나선다.
FIBA랭킹 13위인 한국은 A조에서 미국(1위), 벨기에(5위), 중국(7위), 보스니아 헤르체고비나(26위)와 순위 경쟁을 펼친다.

Chung Sun-min (48), head coach of the Korean national women's basketball team, was selected as the best five World Cup performances of all time by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

Jung Sun-min became the first South Korean player to advance to the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in 2003 based on her performance in the semifinals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2002 World Championships.
In addition to Jung Sun-min, FIBA ranked Ortensia Marcari (63, Brazil), Cheryl Miller (58, USA), Lauren Jackson (41, Australia), and Sancho Little (39, Spain) as the best five World Cup performances of all time.
Meanwhile, South Korea won the World Cup qualification last month. In September, she will compete in the 2022 Women's World Cup in Australia.
South Korea, ranked 13th in the FIBA rankings, will compete with the United States (1st), Belgium (5th), China (7th), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (26th) in Group A.
